Updating Our Free Case Policy: 90-Day Retention for Free Cases
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve performance, security, and data management across the GoldFynch platform, we are updating our free case policy. This will help us to continue delivering fast, reliable service to our growing community of legal professionals and organizations.
At GoldFynch, we’ve always believed that eDiscovery should be simple, transparent, and accessible for everyone. That’s why we’ve offered a free 512 MB case with no time limits since we started almost a decade ago.
Over the years, this free case option has helped thousands of users test drive GoldFynch, run small matters, or simply explore modern cloud-based eDiscovery at no cost.
However, as our platform continues to grow, we’re making an important change to keep GoldFynch secure, fast, and sustainable for all users.
What’s Changing
Starting November 1st, 2025, all free 512 MB GoldFynch cases will automatically expire 90 days after creation.
- After 90 days, free cases will enter a 30-day grace period.
- If not upgraded during that time, the case will be permanently deleted to protect data integrity and free up system resources.
- Paid cases are not affected. This policy applies only to existing free cases created under the old unlimited policy, and to all free cases created going forward.
Why We’re Making This Change
Data Security & Retention Standards
Long-term inactive cases increase both data storage risk and operational overhead. By enforcing a 90-day retention period, we ensure all hosted data remains recent, relevant, and secure.
Performance and Cost Efficiency
Maintaining dormant cases indefinitely diverts system resources from improving the active user experience. This update helps us keep the platform fast, scalable, and affordable while continuing to invest in features that benefit all users.
A Better Free Trial Experience
The 90-day window still provides a generous, no-commitment way to explore GoldFynch, and reflects how most users evaluate or complete smaller matters.
Keeping Your Case
If you currently have a free case that is older than 90 days, it will enter a 30-day grace period (starting November 1st, 2025) after which it will be deleted.
To continue using it, simply upgrade to our smallest paid plan:
- Plan: 3 GB
- Price: $27/month, prorated (pay only for days case is active)
- Includes: More storage, full support, and uninterrupted access to your data
